I am Melody D. Velez — a Bronx-born creative, entrepreneur, and advocate who has transformed personal adversity into purpose-driven community work. From an early age, creativity became my lifeline. Poetry, visual art, and cake design gave me safe spaces to express emotions and find healing through storytelling. What began as a personal survival tool grew into a multifaceted career as an award-winning cake artist, published poet, and nonprofit leader.
As CEO of MDV Custom Cakes, I pioneered the concept of "Cake Therapy" — the idea that edible art can serve as both celebration and a vehicle for emotional healing. My designs have been featured on national television, recognized with industry awards, and commissioned by prominent public figures. But my greatest pride has always been witnessing how creative expression sparks joy, connection, and transformation in others.
My commitment to mental wellness advocacy has been equally central to my journey. Having personally navigated trauma and depression, I have dedicated my career to reducing stigma around mental health and using the arts as a bridge toward healing and community. That passion led me to found Let's C.R.E.A.T.E., Inc. — a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to Cultivate Relationships Enabling Artistic Therapeutic Expression. Through youth-focused workshops in visual arts, poetry, music, and theater, we work to empower young people to transform their experiences into creative strength — just as I have.
Note: Let's C.R.E.A.T.E., Inc. is a community-based wellness and arts organization. We are not a clinical mental health provider. Our programs are not a substitute for therapy or medical treatment.
"I am proof that no story is too broken to be rewritten. Creativity saved me, and now I use it to help others rise from their shadows into their own sunshine."– Melody D. Velez
